The white sand acts like a mirror, reflecting the sun and increasing burn risk.

• Reef-Safe Sunscreen: High SPF (50+) is a must. Bring both cream and spray for easy reapplication.

• Rash Guards: Long-sleeved swim shirts for kids are the best defense against sunburn.

• Wide-Brim Hats: Especially for toddlers who won't keep sunglasses on.

• Aloe or After-Sun Lotion: Hopefully you won't need it, but you'll be glad you have it.

• Insulated Water Bottles: Hydroflasks or similar bottles keep water cold even in 90-degree heat.

• Mesh Beach Bag: Sand-resistant bags are a lifesaver. You want the sand to fall out, not stay in.

• Water Shoes: While the sand is soft, it can get hot midday, and some areas (like the Jetties) have rocks.

• Quick-Dry Towels: Standard towels get heavy and stay wet. Microfiber or Turkish towels are great for families.

• Inflatable Baby Pool: A "pro tip" for toddlers—fill a tiny inflatable pool with a few inches of water under your umbrella. It keeps them cool and safe from waves.

• Sand Toys: Don't buy the cheap ones that break in an hour. Bring a sturdy bucket and shovel set.

• Portable Fan: Clips onto strollers or beach chairs to keep little ones cool during naps.

• Reusable Grocery Bags: Florida often charges for plastic bags, and reusable ones are sturdier for hauling snacks.

• Laundry Pods: Most rentals have a washer/dryer, but only provide 1-2 starter pods.

• Dish Soap & Sponge: Another item rentals rarely provide enough of.

• Ziploc Bags: Essential for keeping phones sand-free and storing leftover snacks.

• Bulky Beach Chairs: Most rentals include beach service (2 chairs + umbrella). Check your listing before you pack the car.

• Too Many Dressy Clothes: Destin is incredibly casual. "Nice shorts and a polo" is acceptable almost everywhere.

• Too Much Food: Destin has amazing Publix and Walmart stores. Order your groceries for pickup or delivery instead of hauling them from home.
